RECLAIMED WOOD

Lush Woodcraft uses reclaimed wood from old barns and buildings in Ontario. We use this wood to create unique, one-of-a-kind custom furniture. Each piece of furniture is specifically manufactured for you after you place an order.

Due to the nature of reclaimed wood, all of our products vary greatly in character, texture and colour. Each and every piece of wood tells it's own story through dents, nail holes, nails, cracks, worm holes, knots, axe cuts, saw marks and the like. We will do our absolute best to accommodate your style and design needs, but we do not guarantee a replica of any of our past projects or pictures of products supplied by you. If opting for the urethane finish on the reclaimed wood, please be aware that, although uncommon, cracks can develop and some warping can occur. We take all precautions possible to reduce the chances of this happening but since the reclaimed wood is over 100 years old, it can be unpredictable. All of our wood is completely kiln dried to a moisture content of 6-8% and treated for bugs. We also seal all of our furniture on all sides.

Wood is a natural material that expands and contracts with changes in temperature and humidity. The best way to maintain the wood in your space is to avoid changes in temperature and keep the humidity levels between 40-60%. For more information about the wood options, please refer to the videos on our “Materials” page or contact us.

LIVE EDGE WOOD

LIVE EDGE SLABS

Our live edge furniture is typically made with either one or two live edge slabs. These slabs are a complete cross section of the tree with the outside bark edges still intact. Like a snow-flake, no two pieces are ever the same and the live edges can vary significantly. Depending on the size, we will either find a single slab that fits the size/style required or use two slabs from the same log and glue them together so that the grain matches up. This is called a book match. The two slabs will be a mirror image of one another and the result is stunning. It also allows us to make really large tables. We offer a variety of species of wood, but the most common options are Maple, Ash and Walnut. If you have specific requirements in terms of the style, size, or live edge character please contact us. If opting for the urethane finish on live edge tables, please be aware that, although uncommon, cracks can develop and some warping can occur. We take all precautions possible to reduce the chances of this happening but since the boards are very wide, it is possible for this to happen. All of our wood is completely kiln dried to a moisture content of 6-8% and treated for bugs. We also seal all of our furniture on all sides and often include steel structural support underneath the tables to ensure a nice flat surface.

Live Edge Maple            Live Edge Walnut

LIVE EDGE PANEL

Our live edge glue up furniture is made by glueing several boards together and using live edge boards on the very outsides of the panel. This makes for a very strong and stable top while still achieving the live edge look. Since this process does not use the large slabs, the cost is typically much lower. We offer a variety of species of wood, but the most common options are Maple and Walnut. All of our wood is completely kiln dried to a moisture content of 6-8% and treated for bugs. MAPLE, WALNUT & WORMY MAPLE

Our standard options for hardwood include Maple, Walnut, and Wormy Maple. We also have access to other hardwoods such as Hard Maple, Elm, Cherry, Ash and more. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, please contact us. All of our hardwoods are locally sourced through arborists, private sales, and sawmills. As Ontario Wood partners, if we purchase wood from a sawmill, we ensure that for every tree that gets cut down, 3 new ones are planted.

Maple is a native hardwood in Ontario and is widely used for it’s strength and beautiful grain. It is very hard and durable and it can be stained any colour making it ideal for furniture, table tops and bar tops.

Walnut is a native hardwood in Ontario and is best known for it’s natural dark brown (espresso) colours. This wood typically does not get stained to preserve the colour and character of the natural wood. It is very hard, heavy, and not as common as Maple making the price point slightly higher than Maple.

Wormy Maple is also a native hardwood in Ontario. It looks slightly different from regular maple because it has some very small holes in the wood. These holes were created by little ambrosia beetles that bore a network of tunnels into the tree. These tunnels leave small streaks in the wood that appear once the wood is cut and dried. The streaks provide a lot of character to the wood without affecting the integrity. Just like regular maple, the wood is very hard and durable and it can be stained any colour making it great for furniture, table tops and bar tops.

EPOXY

Our signature Matte Epoxy Finish is a thicker finish that is poured onto the wood in layers and fills in any cracks or holes making it ideal for reclaimed and live edge wood. The epoxy is a very hard and durable finish that completely seals the wood and prevents warping and cracking. It is completely safe for contact with food and has no VOC’s or harmful chemicals. This finish dries very slowly, thus giving it time to soak into the wood which brings out all the character and provides the strength and durability to last generations. It is completely impervious to water, moisture and alcohol making it an ideal finish for dining tables, coffee tables and bar tops.

URETHANE

Our Matte Urethane finish is a commercial grade urethane that is sprayed onto the wood in a state of the art finishing facility. It provides a hard protective coat that is impervious to water, alcohol, moisture and UV light. With the urethane finish, you will be able feel the natural texture, grain, and character of the wood surface. It is extremely durable and is ideal for protection on dining tables, coffee tables and other furniture.

CUSTOM STAINS

Whether you're trying to match an existing piece, or just don’t see the exact colour you want, we can achieve almost any colour of stain. If choosing a custom stain, we recommended that you send us some pictures of what you are trying to match or the general range of colours you’re looking for. Then, we will make a few stain samples in that spectrum and adjust the colours until we achieve the exact colour you’re looking for. We will always do our very best to get a close match, but since wood is an organic material with natural variances, we cannot guarantee an exact match or replica.
